In recent months, there has been a surge in racially-motivated, violent attacks against the AAPI community. Here in San Francisco, we have unfortunately not been immune to this hate; we have witnessed horrifying violence against Asian American elders on all sides of the Bay. Two weeks ago today, 84-year old Vicha Ratanapakdee was brutally murdered in San Francisco. In January, there was a spree of violent attacks on elders in Oakland’s Chinatown.
My heart breaks for the families of all those targeted and hurt.
Metta Fund condemns this racist violence fueled by rhetoric and hate, and we stand in solidarity with our AAIP family. We join organizations across the nation in condemning anti-Asian bias and violence, and call for accountability and action.
